Empathy Projects is the work of practicing artist and cultural scholar Fabienne Zuijdwijk. Centered around the question of why we feel empathy for some people but not others, Zuijdwijk's research and art practice engages with the clinical study of trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as well as critical approaches to the study of film. Through the conjunction of these disciplines, Zuijdwijk isolates the specific circumstances that influence the way we perceive the “other” and ourselves, which lies at the heart of empathy.
